'Events Day' is a partly student/staff-organised event that is taking place in February in order to encourage the collaboration of students across the different art faculties as well as giving students the opportunity to showcase their personal works or their experiments for their arts practice. I am part of the Events Day committee as co-ordinator, my role is to ensure communication is flowing between prospective artists/collaborators and the committee so that we can push forward organising the time schedule and the placement of all the different submissions and events taking place.
I created an email address in order to receive submissions from prospective artists/collaborators as well as to stay in touch with them about their requirements for space and times etc. It so far has been a really good experience and I have learnt a lot about the different ways we can conduct meetings when discussing curating art works - we can rotate the minute-taker so that the responsibilities are shared equally across the group, which I think is really effective.
So far we have had very few submissions because people don't tend to submit until the last minute in university situations due to other work deadlines in January, etc. But we hope for more soon!
